Google May Day Update

Matt Cutts, one of the main Algorithm drivers at google has commented on the "May Day" Update which has targeted longer tail keyword phrases.

As this update is rolling out many sites have experienced some ranking changes, and to a certain extent this is natural. As Google evolves it is going to adjust the criteria which determine the rankings it produces. From time to time this will help and or hinder a site, but the important thing to remember is that in each instance, you should be trying to provide great content on efficient well laid out pages.

If you give Google and the other major engines what they are looking for then you will benefit from their good grace and favour. Long tail keyword phrases are still achievable, it is just becoming more important to make each page of your site specific to a particular phrase in order to rank well.
