Image Names

The Image Names used when building a website are often overlooked and considered unimportant. However, if you bear in mind that every line of you code is being read by the search engines then it stands to reason that Google will look for congruence through your page and one great place that you can reassure Google that you are a great site is with your Image Names.

If you have images called, 1,2,3,4, etc then you are missing an opportunity to reinforce the primary keywords on your pages. If you were a search engine, what would you look at in order to check the validity of a web page. You would start by checking that as many key indicators as possible were congruent, and so if you marry your Image Names to your Image Alt Text then you will help to confirm to Google bot that you are a site with great content, worthy of a good ranking.

If you are starting from scratch, congruent Image Names are quite easy to implement, but if you are working with an existing site, it can soon involve a lot of work, especially if your images are being shared across the site. In this instance, you will need to weigh up the advantage of having a bespoke named image for a page over the additional loading time involved with multiple image requests.

Since Google Caffeine, it is increasingly important to pay attention to the load speed of your site, find out more here.....Page Load Speed

Remember: The more congruent your site pages, the more relevance Google will attach and so the more important your pages will be considered.

Good SEO starts with congruence on your pages, put in some thought here to tie your keywords in together and you will be rewarded later.
