adwords is viewed by many users as less effective than the natural listings, and there are several reasons for that to be so. Google itself states that you will receive as few as 1 in 8 hits by comparison with a natural listing on the same page, but if you don't have your seo in place yet, waiting 12 months or more for your natural listings to occur is a costly delay. The solution is Adwords, viewed by some as less reliable because anyone can pay to be there, whereas with the natural listings it is widely believed to be the best, most trusted sites that rise to the top. In practical terms, everyone in the natural listings has paid to be there too via SEO, but it seems that most of the public are either unaware of this or not fussed about it.
Adwords has a few advantages over SEO, as well as several disadvantages. On the plus side, you can start advertising on the same day, and pick and choose precisely what keywords you want to rank for, in what areas, and when. On the down side, you have to pay for every click you receive, whether they become a paying customer or not.
For this reason, it is important to make your campaign as targeted and focused as possible, and to continue to refine and improve it on a regular basis.
